What should concrete chipping cost? Pennies per yard.

Built on NRMCA benchmarking data, this live model shows what a defensible chipping budget looks like for a real ready mix fleet. Hover the numbers. Drag the sliders. Then run your own fleet through the analysis below.

Chipping is usually less than 0.2% of concrete sales and about 1% of what a mixer truck already costs to run. NRMCA guidance is direct: clean drums preserve maximum load capacity, mixer life, and safe drum rotation. The expensive chipping program is the one you skip. Benchmarks above are industry averages; the analysis below runs on your fleet's actual numbers, confidentially.

Fleet Chipping Analysis

Customers don't buy a drill because they want a drill. They buy it for the hole. We are the best drill in this industry, and we still spend our time on the hole: your payload, your uptime, your cost per yard. Give us your numbers and we build your fleet's chipping KPIs, with emergencies and full trucks carved out so the baseline is honest.

Since 1999

Express Chipping has chipped ready mix fleets for 27 years. Your answers go to our team only. No lists, no spam, no sharing.

Fleet budgets are competitive information. Your numbers stay between you and our team. We treat your data the way we treat your plant: carefully.

The numbers

Roughly what do you spend on chipping per year?

Ballpark is fine. Include contracted chipping, emergency chip-outs, and full-truck recoveries if you can.

$
Enter a dollar amount. A ballpark works.
The numbers

How much of that spend is emergencies and full trucks?

Emergencies are going to happen. That's exactly why we carve them out: full trucks and emergency chip-outs are variance, and variance shouldn't set your baseline.

Take your best read.
The numbers

In a typical year, how many emergency call-ins and full trucks?

Best guess is fine. These two numbers drive more of your chipping cost than anything else on this form.

The cadence

Are your plants on a chipping cadence today?

Pick the closest one.
The cadence

How many chipping visits does each plant get per year?

Pick the closest cadence.
FleetCare logic

Proactive visits do more than control cost. Lighter, more frequent chips mean less hammer damage to fins and blades, drums that stay in rotation, and crews never fighting month-old concrete against a pour schedule. Efficiency, reliability, and safety ride the same schedule.

The cadence

How often are you chipping plant mixers?

Central mixers take the same buildup your trucks do, and they take down the whole plant when they go.

Is plant mixer chipping inside that chipping budget?
Answer both to keep moving.

Your current vendor

Is your vendor local, or do crews come in from another state?

This scores your serviceability. When crews travel far and there's no plan in place, emergencies and immediacy get hard to predict. A FleetCare cadence improves both.

Straight talk on price

Managing human crews is not something Express Chipping commoditizes. We are not the cheapest, and neither our customers nor we can afford chipping built on low wages and no benefits. Our people carry insurance, workers' comp, vehicles, fuel, hotels, per diem, and paid travel time. Those are the same real costs every ready mix operator carries. Cheap chipping exists only by compromising safety, reliability, and predictability. That's not an operations-forward mindset, and those aren't our clients.

Quality first: we're a great fit

FleetCare plans are built for exactly this. Consistent, scheduled chipping reduces drum and fin damage, cuts crew fatigue, keeps service reliable, and keeps good people on both sides of the partnership. A reasonable approach to quality elevates your fleet and our crews together.

Service first: perfect partner

We work service data relentlessly so we can react when you need us, and we manage routes hard so you rarely need us to. But service runs on communication, partnership, and trust. That's why we keep communication open 24 hours a day: reach out anytime, day or night, and we respond.

Safety first: so are we

Chipping is confined-space work with hydraulic hammers. There is no version of it that survives corner-cutting. Our crews are trained, insured, and never rushed into a drum against a pour schedule. A FleetCare cadence keeps chips light and controlled, which is the single biggest safety lever in this trade.

Reliability first: that's the plan, literally

A FleetCare schedule that holds is the product. Drums stay in rotation, plants know when the crew lands, and nobody discovers a 10,000 pound problem the morning of a big pour. Predictable beats heroic, every time.

Insurance coverage first: fully carried, always current

Every Express Chipping crew works fully insured, with workers' compensation and coverage that reflects the reality of confined-space demolition work. Certificates of insurance are available on request, and we keep documentation current so your compliance file never waits on your vendor.

Communication first: 24 hours a day

You can reach Express Chipping any hour, any day, and we respond. Routes, ETAs, service records, problems: we say it early and we say it straight. Partnerships run on communication, and we treat it like a service line, not an afterthought.

Almost there

Where are you in the process?

We're partners first, not vendors. There's no wrong door here.

We appreciate this approach

Partners are not chosen over a form on a website. Doing this for 27 years, Mike and I understand that we are put in a very trusted situation, and we never take that for granted. First and foremost, we want what is best for your organization. We lean into transparency, honesty, integrity, and the honest approach to the mutual challenges of managing labor and what is essentially a demolition job. So if you just want to get to know us and have a conversation, we will help in whatever way we can, whether you use our services or not. Our reputation speaks for itself. We won't claim perfection, but as a family business I will claim that we are perfectly imperfect, just like all partnerships.

Pick one. Honest answers only.

What the sample numbers say

38% of this fleet's chipping spend is variance: emergencies and full-truck chip-outs. The wish-vs-actual gap is 40%, and most of it lives in that variance, the exact spend a FleetCare cadence converts into scheduled, lighter, cheaper visits.

Drum Life grades a C at 1 to 2 visits per plant per year: long cure windows mean harder chips, more fin and blade damage, and shorter drum steel life. Vendor safety grades a B: no confined space forms and no yearly document updates. Express Chipping provides both as standard.
